Cryosurgery

Safely remove unwanted skin lesions at our medical aesthetic clinic in Colchester.

What Is Cryosurgery?

Cryosurgery is a convenient medical procedure for removing small, non-cancerous skin lesions. The treatment utilises a cryopen to expose the body to extremely cold temperatures, ranging from -100°C to -160°C, for a short period of time. The cryopen targets lesions as small as 1mm, freezing them for easy removal from the skin.

Cryosurgery is ideal for warts, actinic keratoses and seborrhoeic keratoses.

Benefits Of Cryosurgery

Cryosurgery is primarily administered to target specific lesions on the skin. However, the treatment also:

  • Utilises cold temperatures to decrease inflammation in the body.
  • Provides pain relief by reducing pain signals sent to the brain.
  • Speeds up muscle recovery, reduces muscle soreness and promotes faster healing of microtears in the muscles.
  • Stimulates blood circulation to improve skin tone, texture and appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Does Cryosurgery Work?

Cryosurgery utilises a cryopen to expose the body to cold temperatures for a short period of time. This method allows for a more precise targeting for removal, reducing pain, inflammation and injury.

Who Is Cryosurgery Suitable For?

Cryosurgery is suitable for most individuals seeking to non-surgically remove skin lesions, warts and tags. However, it isn’t suitable for pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers, those with auto-immune disorders or sensitivity to the cold.

What Skin Conditions Can Cryosurgery Treat?

The cryopen is a versatile tool that can be used to treat various skin conditions, including warts, skin tags, age spots, actinic keratoses, millis and viral lesions.

Does Cryosurgery Hurt?

The sensation of pain or discomfort during cryosurgery can vary from person to person. Our clients often experience minor discomfort at a localised level.

How Long Will It Take To See Results Following My Cryosurgery Session?

In most cases, cryosurgery removes lesions in one session. For actinic keratoses and age spots, however, it may take 5 days to two weeks to notice significant improvements.

How Many Cryosurgery Sessions Do I Need?

The number of cryosurgery sessions you need is often dependent on the severity of your concern. For smaller lesions, one session is often enough. However, for persistent symptoms, our aesthetic nurse Sophie recommends multiple sessions.
